Interview questions to REVIOLENCE (Brazil) from Birute (www.ferrum.lt)
Year 2010
The World Cup 2010 reserved great disappointment to Brazilian fans and to national team as well. Looking forward to final match and nothing else command of football country stumbled in quarter-final. Anyway, Brazil is great not only due to heights of famous game. There are a lot of metal acts in the depths of underground in this large land. I mean not only the famous names but also other bands that are worth to be recognized whenever. Thrash metallers REVIOLENCE are those who are bringing this style to modern level. Even more – guys are combining familiar sounding with motives of other genres. Don’t you believe? Just listen to their new release “Modern Beast”! Taking an occasion we are talking with two members of the band (the drummer Edson and the guitar player Guilherme) about their music, homeland and much more!
To Edson and Guilherme:
Hi guys! It’s great to hear from you again! I guess our metalheads recognized your band after our previous talk (2008). Also they got a chance to listen to your new material. It’s something to feel well again after full-length album released, isn’t it?
(Guilherme) Hi Birute and guys from Ferrum!! Thanks one more time for the support for Reviolence. Really is a very good felling have a finished work. And the better is see the feedback that people and media are going for us. We make this for you!!
Edson: Hi Birute, thanks for give us one oportunity one more times for talk about Reviolence to Metalheads from Lithuania. Well, is a amazing moment for us , because we have the New Cd, Modern Beast with in dilvulgation work for world wide. I guess that everybody like of our new work.
And maybe you already got in touch with some our metal bands to listen to their material? For instance, our young commands are in “Wacken Metal Battle” contest for a third time. If so, what do you think about sounding of our heavy groups? Edson: Yes, I listened some bands from Lithuania..and I like very much of one called Soul Stealer..they have a very good singer and a good guitar player too!! A fucking good band!! Unfortunatelly the Metal from Lithuania dont arrive for us, which is a shame because you guys have good bands…But today we have Youtube and Myspace that turn the distances more little. For Me Soul Stealer is a great surprise, congratulation guys!!
Well, let’s talk a little bit about one of the most actual news of the nearest period (of course, besides arrival of Modern Beast). That is football and World Cup 2010. I think you also are in some point a part of torsida as this game seems to be like religion in Brazil. What do you think due to “fate” on Brazilian team? What’s your opinion about certain predominance of European countries in late period of this championship despite domination of South American region as previously provided?
(Guilherme) Well, I do not usually accompany football, watched the games with family and friends, the more slack in job and the beers for something else. (Laughter.) But I think with that team, Brazil did not even get anywhere. I think the South American teams were well into their campaigns, in the quarters the games were difficult for Europeans and South Americans, did much luck this time.
(Edson): well, I’m that kind of guy that’s not give importance for football, even living in a place like Brazil where people are terribly “freaks” with this. Many people should call me a boring guy because this, but I prefer not to talk about the subject, because I dont know nothing about it. My focus is always about music in all its aspects.
All in all, let’s do few drinks for Spain. They are new champions even going with cup from their first final match ever. And here is the time to return to REVIOLENCE and “Modern Beast”. Do you think sounding of this album is more clean and technical than before? How much time were you “trapped” in the studio?
(Guilherme) I believe in this…Yes, The modern beast ´s sound is more clean like the last EP, the sounds of the strings were better choiced, because we made the record sessions from strings in my studio, we had much time to choose sounds without worrying with money. The drum sound very good cool too, it all resulted in a great drum´s sound result. Also I think we’re more technical, after all, time passed, we improve our ears and our execution. Music has this thing, very cool, you’re always changing, always looking for results and better sounds …is very cool.
To Guilherme:
Guitar riffs are really technical and matching to general conception of the bands’ sounding. Did you create every parts of guitar solos yourself? What is period of your interest in metal music and also in your practice as guitar player? Exactly, I create the guitar solos, and guitarriffs alone in my studio. I get a lot of time working on them, sometimes I record a riff and compose lead guitars after , or else have an idea of how want it to sound, then make a basis of agreement with the proposal. After that, I send the recordings of the guitars for the Edson and pro Cliff and we talk about their impressions about the work, they often propose interesting ideas. Unfortunately I can not devote time to the guitar that you like, because I have a normal job as well … but whenever I can, I’m with one of the guitars in my hands, either at lunchtime or after work or during the early morning. About the to Metal music, listen to music all the time, can not be without … listen to classic Rock and Metal and other styles of music practically all day! At work, in the car, at home.
Also it should be interesting to hear from you how did you appear in REVIOLENCE. You are the youngest member in the band. How are you feeling among more experienced colleagues? Are you in good relations like one team creating heavy music?
Well, Really ,I’m most Young like the guys, but I don’t see this like a problem. Me, Edson and Cliff always have a good friendship. It’s interesting because we have the same line of thinking, We all see the band in a very professional way. Here, Guys with my age are playing in bands that do not have a professional way to see music. when I was playing with people with my age, I do not get along with the ideas of the guys. Our relationship as band is very good. Our union of three guys is very strong, it helps that our grooves and riffs are strong, put all our energies on them. We have a hot trio, devastating drums and very strong, abass player with ‘punch“ and precision and completing the ideas of the guitar. This gives us that Reviolence´s sound!
Are you satisfied with sounding of your guitar in “Modern Beast”? At last, how could you provide for future turns of thrash metal and your band? Yes , the guitars sound really fat, big and present all the time, the sound does not lump together. The only problem not with the CD sound , but when you play the songs many times in rehearsals and concerts where new ideas and ways to play what was recorded, sometimes wish I could add more guitar lines to the disk. You know, that thing of “hey , I can put another riff here, this can to be more heavy”, etc … I believe the future of Reviolence and scene! For Reviolence, see more albums, concerts, and perhaps in future , we ´ll play in Lithuania, and drink some some beers! I think the scene tends to grow, we have many good bands in the world, this is not a only the new wave , a style is very solid.
To Edson:
Well, nevertheless you are founder of REVIOLENCE. Thrash metal seems to take next wind and a number of old and young bands arise for heavy march. Are you expecting your “child” to be strong in a sea of huge competition? Yes,I´m here sonce the band´s early days, but have old band mattes with me like the bassplayer Mauricio Cliff. I play with this guy since 10 years ago .Well ,I believe that Modern Beast can put us behind the relases from 2010. Till here we have only good review…very positive…important Metal guys from magazines giving us many good words about the CD. One very interesting history happen some days ago…I had a good surprise when saw in my email box ,a message of Gerre from Tankard searching for Modern Beast…Yes the guy is a Reviolence´s fan.
We have now too, our official merchandising made in Europe for a company called Merchlad, the same company that make tshirts for Arch Enemy and Municipal Waste for example…the European Metalheads can buy our tshirts and buttons in Europe now!!
This show us that our sound is arriving till the people ..the release have only 3 months, let see that happen in one year.
One can hear various motives and turns in sounding of “Modern Beast”. How did you decide to introduce power metal tunes and even more “feints” in the album? I can answer that question in two ways, first by seeing how the band plays. We came to the scene of the ’80s, we were kids back in this time and is natural that we have many elements from oild school of Metal in our music…, Saxon, Accept, Judas Priest and other bands are still the light that we search for to compose our own songs. Now seeing this issue as a drummer, well, I play always with an eye in the ’80s, I believe that I still have a lot of influences from guys like Nicko Mac Brian in my way to play drum and drum fills …. I like of precision drummers like as Scott Travis and crazy drummers .like Gene Hoglan. this mix is where I take my way of playing, these guys were my drum teachers in the past
And what’s concerning relations with other Brazilian bands? Are any groups like mates for REVIOLENCE? Or big strife just caused a “battle field” to appear? Well,we have a good relationship here, dont exist the battle like can exist in another countries. There are some ways for one band here, we prefer walk in our own way without looking for another bands.
To Edson and Guilherme:
Ok, it’s interesting to hear certain news about your plans for forthcoming gigs, at least to present your new album. What geographic range of shows is planned? And what’s about the tour, maybe? (Guilherme) We are allowing something, I dont belive for something in this year, but we have strong intentions to take one tour Europe nex year. It would be great for the band, I belive that with concerts in Europe our music ´ll be take more and more people.
And what is your nearest future schedule? I mean every point as concerns REVIOLENCE action. Edson- We are also planning a new music video, I think this year we should still do it to help promote the CD. Soon, we ´ll to spread some news about the band nailed to a single that we ´ll record …and we ´ll play some concerts here in second semester.
Oh men, there is a high heat in Lithuania now. It exceeds 30 ºC and it’s also wet. Damn, I‘m feeling like in desert or in sauna. So guys, allow me to finish our interesting conversation with this 13th question. Traditionally, what are your wishes to our metalheads and all your fans in Lithuania?
(Guilherme ) I understand what you say (laughs) That’s very close to our summer weather. I wish a lot of Metal, many good bands, many new albums, fun for all the metalheads and especially for our fans in Lithuania!
Edson: Hey 30C ????? I have a solution for this!! Cold beer !!!!! Well, I thank all the Metalheads of Lithuania who support us, I hope to play there soon and drink a beer together you.
